Find your actual data usage
Look at several recent months in your provider account. Choose an allowance that reflects your needs and gives you a reasonable buffer. An enormous advertised allowance has little value if you never use it.
Check the network where you use it
Review coverage for home, work, and places you regularly visit. Coverage maps are estimates. If reception matters in a particular building, ask people who already use the network there.
A clearer comparison. Your next decision.
An illustrative mobile comparison.
Current mobile plan
$79/month- 80 gigabytes of data
- Unlimited national calls
- Monthly billing
Alternative mobile plan
$38/month- 80 gigabytes of data
- Unlimited national calls
- Check coverage before switching
You make the final call.$79 less $38, multiplied by 12 months. Review the conditions alongside the price.

Separate the phone from the plan
A recurring payment may combine a service plan with a device repayment. A new service price does not erase your remaining phone balance. Ask your current provider what you would owe if you leave.
Read the inclusions
International calls, roaming, data rollover, hotspot use, and speed caps can vary. Write down the inclusions you use so a lower price does not quietly remove them.
Compare the ongoing cost
Check promotional periods and future price changes. Calculate a full year on consistent assumptions, including any activation or exit costs.
Keep your number and check the timing
Follow the new provider instructions for transferring your number. Do not cancel your old service prematurely. Confirm the process, identity requirements, and timing directly with the provider.
